Tell us about yourself. What is your background, and how did you get into photography?

Hi, I'm Thomas. I am a photographer based in Italy. I have always loved photography since I was a child. As I had the opportunity, I began to travel the world capturing people and events. For years I did reportage style photography, and then entered the world of weddings, which I love. Today I make a living on wedding photography, documenting love stories all over the world. I try to combine the passion of photography and travel.

How has your photography style evolved over time?

Well, I have always tried to photograph real situations, not posed. Today this is what everyone says, but I see many situations that are "posed and fake" in the photos of several photographers. I do not pose anything, I let it all be natural. Being a reportage photographer, I have always disliked everything that is contrived and posed.

What is your greatest piece of advice for emerging photographers?

Oh, I always feel like an emerging photographer, even though I've been working in this field for several years now. I think it's important to always feel young and inexperienced, even when we become experienced. We must never stop feeling excited and shoot as if it were the first time, but with the experience and security of the last one.

What type of photography do you most enjoy?

I truly love Documentary style photography.

What are you discouraged about in your work/business? What encourages you?

I am discouraged when we as photographers are asked to do things outside of our work and style. I love to capture events candidly and in a documentary style. But many times, even though customers have asked for and hired me for this, when it comes down to it, they prefer the posed, overdone shots. This is something I hate.

What defines success for you as a photographer? If you never achieve that, will you still be satisfied with what you do?

I am very satisfied with what I do and I have achieved so far. I do not deny that I would like to improve more and more and reach more and more distant customers. When they write to me from Australia for a wedding, then I can tell myself I have arrived. Haha!
